How Can a Play Therapist Help My Child?

Play is a very natural way in which a child explores the world and finds solutions to everyday problems.

Children can ‘play out’ life experiences and explore feelings through play, allowing them to create a safe distance from their issues.

Play therapy helps the therapist understand the child’s needs through a non-directive approach. This allows the therapist see the world through the child’s eyes.

How Do I Know If My Child Needs Play Therapy?

Play therapy can help children who are experiencing social, emotional, destructive behaviours and learning problems.

A child may not be coping with everyday life and show signs of anxiety, grief and loss due to family separation, death of a person or even an animal. Some children may experience a traumatic event, domestic violence, physical or sexual abuse.

Play therapy can also help children with ADHD and ASD reduce the symptoms.
